India have been unstoppable so far in the tournament and now they will be up against a Kiwi team, the side which has proven to be a nemesis for the Men in Blue in major tournaments.
But Rohit Sharma and co broke the jinx in this year’s edition, when they ousted New Zealand by 4 wickets after a 20-year gap in ICC tournaments.
New Zealand finished 4th and knocked out Pakistan, Afghanistan out of contention. The semi-final match will be a big test for the Indians as they’ve faltered many a times in big tournaments since the last 10 years.
The wounds of 2019 is still fresh in the memory of the senior Indian players, where they fell short by 18 runs against the same team in the very same stage of this competition. India is very much aware of the situation and as of now, they have been brilliant be it any department in batting, fielding or bowling.
The Kiwis on the other hand started this year’s edition off with a bang but then lost their way before eventually qualifying for the business end of the competition.
In the other semis, 5-time champions Australia will take on South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.
