This time in the wedding season immediately after Diwali, the businessmen of the country are expecting big business. This year, the wedding season will start from Dev Uthan Ekadashi on 23rd November and will continue till 15th December. According to an estimate, during this period, about 35 lakh marriages will be solemnized across the country, in which a huge expenditure of about Rs 4.25 lakh crore is likely to be incurred in this season through wedding shopping and various types of services related to marriage.
Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) national BC Bhartia and national general secretary Praveen Khandelwal said that a survey conducted recently by CAT Research and Trade Development Society, the research arm of CAT, among traders and service providers of 20 major cities of the country. According to , more than 3.5 lakh weddings are expected to take place in Delhi alone this season, which is likely to generate a business of around Rs 1 lakh crore in Delhi. Last year, during the same period, about 32 lakh marriages took place and the expenditure was estimated at Rs 3.75 lakh crore.
Expected turnover of Rs 4.25 lakh
According to CAT’s Praveen Khandelwal, in this wedding season, the estimated expenditure for about 6 lakh marriages will be Rs 3 lakh per marriage, while for about 10 lakh marriages, the expenditure will be about Rs 6 lakh, Rs 12 lakh per marriage. Weddings will cost around Rs 10 lakh per wedding, 6 lakh weddings will cost Rs 25 lakh per wedding, 50 thousand weddings will cost Rs 50 lakh per wedding and 50 thousand weddings will cost Rs 1 crore or more. Overall, in this one month, there will be an inflow of around Rs 4.25 lakh crore from wedding purchases in the markets during the wedding season. The next phase of the wedding season will start from mid-January and continue till July
Agencies will also benefit
Khandelwal said that in view of the good business prospects in the wedding season, businessmen across the country have made extensive preparations. In view of the possible rush of customers, traders are keeping all their arrangements in order. He said that about 20 percent of the expense of every marriage goes to the bride and groom’s side while 80 percent of the expense goes to other third agencies involved in conducting the marriage.
The shine of business will increase
According to Khandelwal, before the wedding season, there is a huge business of repairing houses and painting houses. Apart from this, there is business of jewellery, sarees, lehenga-chuni, furniture, readymade clothes, clothes etc. , Shoes, Wedding and Greeting Cards. Dry fruits, sweets, fruits, puja items, grocery, food grains, decorative items, home decor items, electrical utilities, electronics and many gift items etc. are generally in demand and this year apart from these sectors other businesses are also in demand. Good business is also expected.
Demand for these things will increase
Bhartia and Khandelwal said that banquet halls, hotels, open lawns, community centres, public parks, farm houses and many other types of venues are fully prepared for weddings across the country including Delhi. Apart from procurement of props, every wedding also involves a variety of services including tent decorator, flower arrangement, crockery, catering service, travel service, cab service, reception of professional groups, vegetable vendors, photographers, videographers, bands etc. -Baja, Shehnai, orchestra, DJ, horses for the procession, carriages, lights and many other types of services are likely to do big business this time! Along with this, event management has also emerged as a big business possibility.
